dc.description.abstractCaranguejos da Família Porcellanidae são considerados um dos mais comuns e abundantes grupos de crustáceos de habitats rochosos da região intermareal. O presente estudo teve como objetivo estudar os padrões de distribuição e abundância da fauna intertidal de porcelanídeos da Baía de Sepetiba, assim como estudar diversos aspectos da biologia populacional e reprodutiva de P. armatus em duas regiões insulares e uma continental. A captura dos animais iniciou-se em julho/2004, na Ilha da Marambaia, e finalizou-se em fevereiro/2007, na Prainha. Ao todo foram selecionados 7 pontos de estudo, distribuídos entre os setores interno (Ilha da Marambaia, Praia de Junqueira e Praia de Ibicuí), intemediário (Lage do Lopes e Prainha - Ilha de Itacuruçá) e externo da Baía (Praia de Itacuruçá e Barra de Guaratiba). Coletas manuais foram efetuadas nos substratos consolidados na zona intertidal, capturando-se os animais sob pedras, troncos, entre algas, conchas, ostras, esponjas, briozoários e entocados em frestas de rochas. Diferentes estratégias metodológicas foram realizadas entre os pontos de coleta. No laboratório os animais foram separados por sexo, classificados quanto ao estágio de desenvolvimento e mensurados em relação ao comprimento e a largura da carapaça, a largura do abdome, o comprimento e altura do própodo quelar e o comprimento do gonopódio. Um total de 4121 caranguejos foi capturado, representados pelas espécies: Megalobrachium roseum, Megalobrachium soriatum, Megalobrachium mortenseni Minyocerus angustus, Pachycheles laevidactylus, Pachycheles monilifer, Petrolisthes armatus e Pisidia brasiliensis. Com exceção de P. armatus, os demais porcelanídeos habitaram exclusivamente o intertidal inferior da Baía. As espécies M. soriatum, M. mortenseni, M. angustus, P. laevidactylus e P. monilifer apresentaram restrita ocorrência na Baía. A maior diversidade ocorreu no setor externo e a maior dominância no setor interno. Petrolisthes armatus mostrou-se o porcelanídeo dominante dessa Baía, tendo essa espécie reproduzindo-se continuamente na Ilha da Marambaia, na Prainha e em Ibicuí. Somente na Ilha da Marambaia a razão sexual de P. armatus diferiu do esperado, nas amostragens de 2004 a 2005. O dimorfismo sexual dessa espécie foi presenciado na Ilha da Marambaia e na Prainha, sendo os machos os maiores indivíduos nessas localidades. Uma contínua entrada de juvenis de P. armatus foi presenciada nas regiões de estudo. A espécie utilizou-se de diferentes estratégias de crescimento e de reprodução entre Ibicuí e Prainha.por

dc.description.abstractOtherCrabs of the Porcellanidae Family are considered one of the most common and abundant groups of crustaceans in intertidal rocky habitats of the region. This study aimed to examine distribution and abundance patterns of intertidal porcelain’s fauna of the Sepetiba Bay, as well as studying various aspects of population and reproductive biology of P. armatus on two islands and a mainland. The capture of animals began in July/2004, on the island of Marambaia, and ended up in February/2007 in Prainha. In all 7 points were selected for study, distributed among internal (Marambaia Island, Ibicuí and Junqueira Beach), middle (Lopes’ Lage and Prainha – Itacuruçá Island) and outside of the Bay (Itacuruçá and Guaratiba). Manual samples were made in consolidated substrates in intertidal zone, is capturing the animals under stones, logs, from algae, shells, oysters, sponges, bryozoans and burrow into rock cracks. Different methodological strategies were made among the collection points. In the laboratory the animals were separated by sex and development stage and measured in relation to the length and carapace width, abdomen width, the length and propodus height and gonopods length. A total of 4121 crabs were captured, represented by species: Megalobrachium roseum, Megalobrachium soriatum, Megalobrachium mortenseni, Minyocerus angustus, Pachycheles laevidactylus, Pachycheles monilifer, Petrolisthes armatus and Pisidia brasiliensis. Except for P. armatus, other porcellanids inhabited only the lower intertidal of the Bay. The species M. soriatum, M. mortenseni, M. angustus, P. laevidactylus and P. monilifer had restricted occurrence in the Bay. The highest diversity occurred in the foreign sector and the increased dominance in the domestic sector. Petrolisthes armatus was the dominant porcelain of the Bay, and this species is reproducing continuously on the Marambaia Island, in Prainha and Ibicuí. Only the Marambaia Island had the sex ratio of P. armatus different from the expected, in samples from 2004 to 2005. The sexual dimorphism of this species has been witnessed on the Marambaia Island and Prainha, and males are the majority in these localities. A continuous input of juvenile P. armatus was witnessed in the region of study. The species used are different strategies for growth and reproduction between Prainha and Ibicuíeng
