Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) is the main Brazilian agricultural crop. Due to its high protein content (40%), it needs a high supply of nitrogen (N), which is provided by biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) by inoculating with it strains of Bradyrhizobium spp. recommended for soybeans in Brazil. These strains have different denitrification capacities that can affect N2O emissions. The management of these strains can become a strategy to mitigate N2O emissions the production of soybean. This study aimed to evaluate agronomic efficiency and N2O emissions in soybean by inoculation of strains of Bradyrhizobium spp. with different denitrifying capacities. An in vitro experiment was carried out, two field experiments were conducted, the first between the years 2017 and 2018, and the second in 2020 at the Embrapa Agrobiologia Experimental Station, another greenhouse experiment was carried out between 2019 and 2020 at Embrapa Agrobiologia, both located Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro. The experimental design was a randomized block, with five replications, and the treatments consisted of inoculating soybean seeds with strains of Bradyrhizobium sp. recommended in Brazil, which are CPAC 7 (Bradyrhizobium diazoefficiens), CPAC 15 (Bradyrhizobium japonicum), 29 W and SEMIA 587 (Bradyrhizobium elkanii), more Control (without bacteria) and Soil (without plant) treatment. In the in vitro experiment, the design was completely randomized, with five replications. In field experiments, strain 29W generally presented a high nodule dry mass, these results were also reflected in high BNF rates and positive N balance for the soil. SEMIA 587 increased productivity compared to Control, not differing from the other strains in the 2017/2018 experiment, whereas in the 2020 experiment there was no effect (P<0.05) of the inoculation with Bradyrhizobium spp. N is accumulated in greater proportions in soybeans, and senescent leaves and nodules are the parts of the plant that most contribute N to the soil. In the field experiments, there was no effect of the strains on N2O emissions, with soil preparation in the field and in the pot and the decomposition of residues at the end of the cycle and post-harvest are the factors that most influenced the emissions. EFs were less than 1% established by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), except for Control treatment and CPAC 15 in the 2020 field experiment. Under greenhouse conditions, CPAC 7, SEMIA 587 and 29W presented high BNF, and CPAC 7 reduces N2O emissions in soybean, results that were proven with the denitrification genes observed in the nodules. In the in vitro experiment, acetylene inhibited nitrous oxide reductase (nosZ), allowing a greater emission of N2O.en
