In a piggery with 420 animals divided in 6 categories, as followed: resting-sows, pregnant-sows, suckling-piglets, weaned-piglets, finishing feeder pigs and boars; where it was observed an outbreack of foal watery diarrhea in suckling piglets when they were weaned. The diarrhea was characterized by brownyellow and fetid scour. Protozoa of the genus Cryptosporidium were observed in the feces of animals with diarrhea by using staining methods as well as saturated suggar solution in phase contrast. Experimental infection with C. muris from pigs in mice was capable to induce infection where the prepatent period was 6 days aproximatelly. The oocysts of C. muris from pigs and rats of the piggery and those one from experimentally infected mice were similar based on measurement obtained by using phase contrast. Finally, there was a close relationship between pigs xx and rats in Cryptosporidium infection of piggery. The rats usually has fed on pig-feeders and in the feed deposit facilitating the dissemination of this protozoosis among animals.eng
