Abstract: The objective of this study was to characterize and evaluate the qualitative and quantitative parameters of the census of the trees of the Grajaú neighborhood and to compare them with the trees of the central district, both of the city of Rio de Janeiro, using geoprocessing tools. The arborization of the streets of the Grajaú neighborhood compared to the Center presented a greater number of trees (2,719 x 2,693) and diversity of species (82 x 50). The ten most frequent species represented 73 and 83% in the same comparison, and six of them were similar in the two districts, especially Licania tomentosa. In the Grajaú neighborhood, 150 trees (5.5% of the total) presented lesions caused by cancer, and in the Center, 53 trees (2.0% of the total), with Terminalia catappa and Senna siamea representing 79,3 and 77 , 4% of diseased trees in Grajaú and Centro respectively. Trees with a cavity equal to and greater than 30% of the corcurrence (1.4 and 8.7% of the Grajaú and Centro trees respectively) were represented in 70.3% by the species Tamarindus indica in Grajaú and 80.9% by Licania tomentosa in the Center. In both districts there was a low index of trees with unbalanced crowns and root damages (3.3 and 0.9% of the total in Grajaú and Centro respectively) and the highest intensity of conflicts was with the front with trees of height above 9.4 m. With the production of the maps and the aid of the geoprocessing it was possible to observe how is the distribution behavior and where the problems are located, aiding in the planning and the management of the vegetables.
