Abstract: The Atlantic Forest biome is the fifth most endangered in the world, which originally covered more than 1,000,000 square kilometers along the Brazilian coast, was reduced to less than 100,000 square kilometers of vegetation. Besides the loss of biodiversity by anthropogenic causes, events such as outbreaks of fires, droughts and extreme weather systems entail devastating consequences to forest systems at regional and global scale. The climatic effects in Brazil caused by La Niña differ from effects of El Niño. The objective of this work was to study and understand the spatio-temporal variability of the Atlantic Forest in years of strong occurrence of La Niña in the city of Cunha-SP, Brazil. The study area is the wedge Municipality - SP, which is located in a horseshoe formed by the sea saw, bocaina and breaks yoke, with a land area of 1,410 km². In this work it was used MOD13Q1 product images coming from the Earth platform MODIS sensor, which represents the vegetation index EVI (Enhanced Vegetation Index) with a spatial resolution of 250m. Descriptive statistics were done using Excel, where the average was analyzed, minimum, maximum, standard deviation, variance and coefficient of rainfall variation, temperature and EVI for the years 2007 and 2008 were the last years of the occurrence of La Niña event in Brazil. To correlate and analyze data which best explain the data obtained by remote sensing of EVI with rain and temperature of the conventional wedge Meteorological Station, SP of the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), the multiple regression analysis was used. The analyzed classes of rain and EVI in 2007, has a range from 49.49 to 360.54 and average of 187.02 and 0.19 to 0.55 and averaged 0.38 respectively. In 2008 the classes analyzed rainfall and vegetation were from 43.84 to 397.59 and average of 171.60 and 0.25 to 0.51 and averaged 0.46 respectively. The correlation of rainfall versus EVI in 2007 was higher than the correlation of the year 2008 and the r² = 0.43 and 0.12 respectively. In the multiple regression analysis for the year 2007 was highest with a score of 87% correlation, while the year 2008 was only 27% correlation. The EVI can be used for dynamic studies of vegetation in Cunha, SP and serve for future studies in neutral years of phenomena La Niña and El Niño.
