The gold cycle and especially the coffee cycle bequeathed environmental degradation framework for the Paraíba do Sul, RJ. The remaining Atlantic Forest in the city presents itself as a mosaic of fragments and the connection of these is of great importance for the conservation of natural resources. The Landscape Ecology is a science that uses spatial features observable and measurable, and application in the characterization of forest fragments and the implications for ecological processes. Certain landscape sites have much easier to recover after a disturbance and the natural regeneration, for example, can be favored. This study quantified the remaining forest fragments in the Paraíba do Sul city from the supervised classification by maximum likelihood Landsat-8 image; verified the influence of terrain attributes (face exposure, solar radiation, slope and curvature profile) natural regeneration; obtained landscape metrics for the remaining fragments; and pointed, based on the results obtained through fuzzy membership, areas with the greatest potential for allocation of ecological corridors. Pastures predominate in the city, is considered the matrix. 31% of the territory is covered by vegetation in different stages of regeneration. Were recorded 1.251 forest fragments in middle or advanced stage of regeneration. Most of them (62.7%) has an area of less than 5 ℎ𝑎. Only 8 fragments exceed 100 ℎ𝑎 but has low degree of isolation, so this patches are a priority for conservation. The fragments in medium-advanced stage of regeneration are preferably in southeast, south and west parts, which receive the least amount of global solar radiation per year, and over 20% slope. The adjustment of fuzzy functions identified 23.775 ℎ𝑎 of territory so as to facilitate recovery of the forest and are therefore strategic areas for implementation and optimization of resources and conservation programs.pt_BR
